We had another great Startup Lean Coffee on a rainy morning at Betaworks Studios; 11 of us braved the weather for amazing breakfast spread and an engaging conversation. This time, we decided to stay in one larger group, start a little later, and give ourselves an extra half hour. The topics that we discussed included:
As a single group, we didn’t cover as many topics and we tended to explore each topic in more depth. Some highlights included: we do a disservice by propping up startups that shouldn’t survive. Also, there are a number of highly successful tech companies, like InVision, that were built on a 100% remote workforce. Both 100% co-located and 100% remote have their pros and cons; remote doesn’t need to impact credibility. Demonstrating that you can leverage the pros, like recruiting great talent, and overcome the cons, like communicating effectively and shipping a great product, is what’s important.
Startup Lean Coffee is a monthly gathering of founders, early employees, advisors, investors, and anyone involved or interested in joining the startup world in any capacity. Our sole purpose is to help each other improve by sharing questions and experiences. All you need to bring is your attention, curiosity, and willingness to share.
We follow a Lean Coffee meeting format, a lightly facilitated meeting where participants democratically build an agenda and discuss each topic for a fixed time, voting to continue discussion or move on to the next topic after the time runs out.
Startup Lean Coffee is graciously hosted by Betaworks Studios. We meet on the 4th Friday of each month. Participation is free; but space is limited. Sign up for the next Startup Lean Coffee, which will be on April 26 at 9am.
